We’re delighted to announce that for the coming year, Banana Moon Day Nursery will be supporting Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity which helps 90,000 children and young people each and every year.
Headquartered in Warwick, in the heart of the country, the acclaimed and indispensable Birmingham Children’s Hospital is held close to the company’s heart, with Banana Moon’s Managing Director and founder spending many sleepless nights at the facility with his family.
Speaking of his experience, Mark Bates said: “In October 2006 my two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Emily quite suddenly became very ill. The symptoms were unusual and very difficult to diagnose, and consequently Emily was rushed into Birmingham Children’s Hospital. On arrival she was immediately diagnosed with a very rare condition called Haemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS) and given a 40% chance of recovery. Four weeks later following 24-hour intensive, fantastic care and dialysis, Emily survived and returned home. In November 2009, at six-years-old, Emily was given the all clear”
However seven years later, last December, Mark and his family returned to the hospital: “Emily had a horrendous horse riding accident resulting in a broken leg and was airlifted to Birmingham Children’s Hospital to have a six-hour operation. Once again, the hospital was fantastic and Emily is well on the way to a full recovery and starting to ride again!”
Birmingham Children’s Hospital is a leading UK specialist paediatric centre, treating one in five children from Birmingham and one in eight from the wider West Midlands. Every patient and family at Birmingham Children’s Hospital will have been touched by the hospital’s charity in some way.
Banana Moon Day Nursery aims to raise over £10,000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity over the course of the coming year by holding various fundraising events at its widespread nurseries: “We will never be able to thank the staff at Birmingham Children’s Hospital enough for saving Emily’s life, but by way of thanking them we would like to raise money through a number of events over the next 12 months.”
