Free childcare in the UK changed as of April 2024: what are you now entitled to?
For working families, one of the biggest monthly costs is childcare. Previously, some children from two years old were entitled to 15 hours free hours childcare provided by the government, but for most parents, the funding started the term after their child turned three years old and the return to work began when their child was between 9 -12 months. The good news is the new funding brought in by the government will aid families to access childcare and support them to return to work.
So, what’s changing
Starting from April 2024, parents of two-year-olds may have access to 15 hours of government-funded childcare. Then, from September 2024, this support could extend to all children from nine months old, with 15 hours provided. If entitled, by September 2025, working parents of children under five will be entitled to claim 30 hours of government-funded childcare per week.
